My first post, woo!!! I’ve been debating making this blog since the start of the month, but, well, here we are at the end of the month. I’m still high-key overwhelmed to think it’s already been a month of 2019? I’m still back in 2010, ok.

Anyway, this month I read 12 books, which is really good! Two books were rereads (Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom !!!!!!!! aka the BEST BOOKS EVER GO READ THEM) but the rest were all new to me.

Biggest disappointment

I mean, out of 12 books. But still.

I was expecting so much more from Solitaire, to be honest! I didn’t hate it, but after really enjoying I Was Born For This, this one definitely didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The plot was messy, there were several aspects which I just felt weren’t executed well… I don’t know. It’s complicated.

Favourites:

Legendary truly captivated me so much, I was so invested and god was I SHOOK at that ending! The world is so amazing, and I loved this one so much more than the first book. I NEED Finale. Omg.

Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom were MASTERPIECES as usual. I loved them so much. If you haven’t read them………… I will not share my cookies ok. That is a threat. I have to say, although I didn’t love the Grisha trilogy as much as Six of Crows, I did enjoy the books! It was interesting to finally have read them after all this time haha.

*whisper* I did not love The Cruel Prince, buuuuut I did enjoy The Wicked King! So many twists and turns and that ending, like the first one begs so much more aaaaah.

Shout out also to The Brilliant Death as well for the especially cute and slow burn romance of 2 non-binary main characters!! Diversity in fantasy is where it’s at people. ❤ ❤

Also: The Poet X was a beautifully written, and nuanced piece of work in verse, that I enjoyed so much! It explored sexism, relationships, the complex nature of strict parents, and so much more. ❤

  1. Welcome to the book blogging community! I love your blog name — it’s super cute! Fantasy is one of my favorite genres, so I’m looking forward to seeing more of your posts 🙂

    As for my favorite book of 2018… that’s a tough one, but I’d have to say Syzygy by JK Ullrich. It’s sci-fi, not fantasy, but I highly recommend it!! (I just posted a gushing review about it, so there’s no hiding how much I love it, lol.)

    I’ve been wanting to read Six of Crows for FOREVER, and I just got it for my birthday, so I’m excited to check it out. It’s good to hear that you loved it so much — I’m looking forward to it even more after reading your post! Thanks for sharing 😀

You had such a great reading month, congrats on reading 12 books 🙂 I still haven’t read SOC and I KNOW I need to, haha, it’s such a hyped book in the community. And I’m sorry to hear that Solitaire was disappointing, but I’m glad that you loved IWBFT!! I absolutely loved that book 🧡

    Also, I just read your ‘about me’ page and we have so many similarities, I can’t even 😂 I’m currently in the last year of the IB program, and I agree with you that it is absolute HELL, lmao. 😩 I love reading YA contemporary & fantasy too, although I’ll admit that my heart will always belong to contemporaries, hehe. AND I LOVE B99 AND BOBA TOO AAHHH 💓 Okay, I’m done haha 🙈 I’m looking forward to reading more of your posts and chatting with you!!

Oh my gosh YES YOU MUST 😭😍😍 it is the absolute best thing ever. Yes, it was unfortunate!! IWBFT made up for it though IT’S SO GOOD.

      Aaaah that’s so awesome!! 🙈 Not a ton of people really know what IB is ahah let alone doing it as well. RIGHT?!? It’s such a struggle 😫 You’re almost done though at least!! 👏🎉 Ahaha I totally know what you mean, contemporaries are just so amazing. AHHH YAY THEY’RE BOTH SO AMAZING!!       • Awww you’re so kind, thank you! 😭💓 And omg yes, it’s so cool to meet another person who’s also in IB hahah (although I’m sorry that you’re suffering too 😩). It definitely is a struggle lol, but I hope it’ll all be worth it in the end. I know I’m almost done with IB, but these next few months are gonna be extremely stressful, aahhh. I can’t wait until it’s over :’) Anyway, I’m so happy you joined the book blogging community because I already love your blog and chatting with you! I only just read the series for the first time a couple months ago but I’m so in love with it. Do you have a favorite of the characters? 🙂

    Aw I was also disappointed by Solitaire! I absolutely *adored* Radio Silence, so I was expecting more from it as well. I still have to read I Was Born For This though and I’m super SUPER excited for it🧡

        AH Nina and Jesper are both amazing. I’m so so so glad Nina has a POV in King of Scars. My favorite of the Dregs is Wylan… but I just love them all so very much! They’re all the best lol.

    Wow, looks like some amazing reads for the start of 2019. I had no idea that The Brilliant Death had nonbinary leads??? What???? Gotta read that asap. And Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are ALWAYS a win! ❤ I had basically the same reaction to Solitaire, unfortunately, which is a shame considering how much I've loved Alice Oseman's other books. And The Poet X sounds truly amazing! I'll have to get on that 😉

      Yes!! The main lead and their love interest are both non binary (and I believe it’s #ownvoices as well?!) 😍😍 YESSS oh my gosh I love those books so much. Aw, I’m sorry to hear that, though I’m glad I’m not alone ahh. It’s really too bad we didn’t enjoy it more ahh. It is really wonderful!

    ALSO YES LEGENDARY was so twisty and turny and GOOD and the world was so dark and elaborate – I loved it!! I’m so excited for Finale, I might die in anticipation!!

    I APPROVE OF YOU READING SIX OF CROWS AGAIN! those books are my favourite and terrific and 100% would die for all of the dregs.

    I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed by Solitaire, it seems like a lot of people were. I personally loved it, but I think that Alice Oseman has been getting better and better with every single one of her releases, her latest in date, I Was Born For This, was my favorite. I hope you’ll give Radio Silence, her other book, a try sometime if you haven’t just yet 🙂

I read An ember in the ashes last year and loved it, I yet have to read A reaper at the gates which will probably happen this year (and don’t worry I was also shocked january was already over haha) Have an amazing february 💗
